Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro Review: A Compact Business PC?

The Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro is a business-grade desktop that delivers practical everyday performance in an exceptionally compact design. This refurbished configuration includes an 11th-generation Intel Core i5-11500T processor, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, Wi-Fi connectivity and Windows 11 Professional.

Despite being small enough to sit discreetly on a desk or mount behind a compatible monitor, the OptiPlex 7090 Micro contains a six-core desktop processor rather than an entry-level mobile chip. This makes it a capable option for office productivity, remote work, study, point-of-sale systems and general home computing.

Its main limitation is restricted expansion compared with a full-sized desktop.

Recompute Quick Verdict

The Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro is an excellent choice for customers who need a reliable and space-efficient business computer.

The six-core Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of RAM provide more than enough performance for office applications, web-based systems, video meetings and everyday multitasking. Dual DisplayPort connections also make it suitable for productive two-monitor workstations.

The 256GB SSD is upgradeable if required, while Intel integrated graphics are not intended for demanding gaming or professional 3D work. For office, business, study and general home use, however, this is a well-balanced compact desktop.

What we like:

  • Extremely compact business-grade design

  • Six-core, twelve-thread Intel Core i5 processor

  • 16GB of RAM for comfortable multitasking

  • Fast SSD storage

  • Two DisplayPort connections

  • USB-C and multiple USB-A ports

  • Wi-Fi

  • Gigabit Ethernet

  • Windows 11 Professional included

  • One-year Recompute hardware warranty

Things to consider:

  • No dedicated graphics card
  • Limited physical expansion compared with a tower

  • Monitor, keyboard and mouse are not necessarily included

Compact Micro Design

The OptiPlex 7090 Micro is designed to provide desktop performance without occupying the space required by a conventional tower.

At approximately 18cm high, 18cm deep and only 3.6cm wide, it can sit vertically beside a monitor, lie flat on a desk or be attached to compatible Dell mounting hardware.

The compact design is particularly useful for:

  • Reception and administration desks

  • Small home offices

  • Retail point-of-sale systems

  • Schools and computer laboratories

  • Medical and professional consulting rooms

  • Call centres

  • Multi-monitor business workstations

  • Areas with limited desk space

Optional mounting brackets and monitor stands may be available, but customers should confirm whether any mounting accessories are included.

Intel Core i5-11500T Performance

The Intel Core i5-11500T is an 11th-generation desktop processor with six cores, twelve threads and a maximum turbo frequency of 3.90GHz.

The “T” designation identifies it as a lower-power desktop processor. It is designed to provide useful business performance while producing less heat and consuming less electricity than a standard full-power desktop processor.

It is well suited to:

  • Microsoft Office and OpenOffice applications

  • Accounting and administration software

  • Web-based business systems

  • Email and internet browsing

  • Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings

  • Remote-access applications

  • Streaming and general home use

  • Light photo editing

  • Software development and coding

  • Everyday multitasking

The six-core design gives it a useful advantage over older four-core office desktops, particularly when several applications are running simultaneously.

It is not intended for heavy CPU rendering, advanced scientific calculations or workstation-class simulation. However, it provides strong everyday performance for the workloads most business and home users require.

16GB Memory for Multitasking

The included 16GB of RAM is a comfortable amount for modern office and home computing.

It allows users to run a web browser, email, office documents, communication software and background applications simultaneously without the restrictions commonly experienced with 8GB systems.

The OptiPlex 7090 Micro uses two laptop-style SODIMM memory slots. The platform supports future memory upgrades, although the exact upgrade process depends on how the existing 16GB is arranged between those slots.

Customers planning an upgrade should check whether the computer contains one 16GB module or two 8GB modules before purchasing additional memory.

256GB SSD Storage

The 256GB solid-state drive provides fast Windows startup, responsive application loading and quick access to everyday files.

It is generally sufficient for:

  • Windows 11 and business applications

  • Office documents

  • Accounting records

  • Web-based work

  • School and university assignments

  • A moderate collection of personal files

The capacity may be restrictive for large photo or video libraries, extensive software installations or customers who store most of their data locally.

The OptiPlex 7090 Micro platform offers potential storage upgrade options, including M.2 and 2.5-inch storage configurations. Available space, brackets and cables can vary between individual machines, so upgrade requirements should be confirmed before ordering.

Cloud storage, network storage or an external drive can also provide additional capacity.

Intel UHD Graphics 750

Graphics are handled by Intel UHD Graphics 750 integrated into the processor.

These graphics are suitable for:

  • Office applications

  • Web browsing

  • Streaming video

  • Video conferencing

  • Business presentations

  • Basic photo editing

  • Running two office monitors

The integrated graphics are not designed for modern gaming, advanced video effects, GPU rendering or professional 3D modelling.

The Micro chassis does not provide room for a conventional full-sized graphics card, so customers requiring dedicated graphics should consider a Small Form Factor, tower desktop or workstation.

Dual-Monitor Support

Two DisplayPort connections make the OptiPlex 7090 Micro well suited to a dual-monitor office setup.

A two-screen configuration can improve productivity by allowing users to keep email, reference information or communication software open on one screen while working on documents or business applications on the other.

Customers using monitors with HDMI inputs may require DisplayPort-to-HDMI cables or adapters. Display cables are listed as complimentary when a qualifying monitor package is purchased, but they should not be assumed to be included with the desktop by itself.

Ports and Connectivity

The current Recompute configuration provides:

  • USB-A connections

  • One USB-C connection

  • Two DisplayPort connections

  • Gigabit Ethernet

  • Universal audio connection

  • Wi-Fi through a supplied adapter

The USB-C connection is useful for compatible storage devices, hubs and peripherals. However, a USB-C connector does not automatically mean that Thunderbolt, monitor output or computer charging is supported.

The desktop uses a separate external Dell power adapter rather than a conventional internal desktop power supply.

Business and Security Features

As a Dell OptiPlex, the 7090 Micro was designed for managed business environments. It includes TPM 2.0 support, Dell BIOS security features and physical security options.

TPM 2.0 supports Windows 11 security features and can help protect encryption keys and login credentials.

The compact computer can also be physically secured using compatible locking hardware, which is useful in reception areas, schools, retail environments and other shared locations.

Power Efficiency and Noise

The Core i5-11500T is a 35-watt processor designed for compact and energy-conscious desktop systems.

This makes the OptiPlex 7090 Micro considerably more economical to operate than a high-performance gaming desktop or workstation. It is suitable for businesses deploying multiple computers or users who leave their systems operating throughout the workday.

The internal fan may become audible during updates or sustained processor-heavy tasks, but ordinary office work places a relatively light load on the system.

What Is Included?

A keyboard, mouse and suitable display cables are listed as complimentary when a qualifying monitor package is purchased. Customers buying the desktop by itself should confirm exactly which accessories and power cables are included.

A monitor is not included unless selected as part of a monitor package.

Who Is This Desktop Best For?

The Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro is particularly suitable for:

  • Small and medium businesses

  • Office and administration staff

  • Reception and customer-service areas

  • Remote and hybrid workers

  • Students and educators

  • Home users

  • Point-of-sale systems

  • Dual-monitor office setups

  • Organisations deploying multiple compact computers

  • Customers replacing an older desktop tower

It is less suitable for demanding gaming, advanced video editing, professional 3D design or customers who need full-sized PCIe expansion cards.

The Recompute Verdict

The Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro is a capable and space-efficient refurbished business desktop.

Its six-core Intel Core i5 processor and 16GB of RAM provide a strong foundation for office applications, online systems, video meetings and everyday multitasking. The compact chassis, dual DisplayPort connections, and Windows 11 Professional make it easy to integrate into home and business workspaces.

Integrated graphics and limited physical expansion also mean it is not intended to replace a gaming desktop.

For customers seeking a reliable office computer that occupies very little desk space, the OptiPlex 7090 Micro offers an excellent combination of performance, practicality and value.
