Keep reading to find out how to clean your laptop keyboard the right way!

Unplug and Turn Off

During laptop keyboard cleaning, you need to make sure your computer is powered off. Go the extra mile and unplug your device as well. Any time that you are cleaning or repairing electronics, it's a good rule of thumb to keep them powered off and unplugged for your safety.

This will also help you from creating a mess of your computer. Dealing with the keys, you don't want to cause a tech hiccup!

Upside-Down Is Best

If you have pesky crumbs between your keys, turn your laptop upside-down while it is open. Gently give it a shake or tap to get the debris to fall out.

Use a Soft Brush

Take a soft-bristled brush and glide it across your keyboard to knock loose any small pieces of debris. Doing this while your laptop is still open and upside down will allow it to fall out of the keyboard.

Be sure that you don't push any debris further into the keys which can cause a very annoying sticky key. Compressed air also works to knock loose debris.

Wipe With Cloth

Grab a cloth, preferably microfiber, and get it highly damp. Using the corner of the cloth, wipe across the keys.

This might be a good time to wipe down your screen as well. Get rid of those smudges, fingerprints, and any other dirt with the help of the slightly damp cloth.

Cotton Swabs

If any spots remain, grab some cotton swabs. Dip them in isopropyl alcohol for a quick-drying and effective cleanser. Be sure to wipe away any leftover moisture before you leave your laptop to ensure that you don't cause any damage.

Disinfection

As mentioned, your keyboard contains many bacterias. Especially if the laptop is shared, you may want to disinfect your keyboard.

Disinfectant wipes work great to get the job done. Before you wipe the keyboard down, be sure that you wring out any excess moisture from the wipe. You may want to avoid any products that contain bleach.

Under the Keys

You can clean under your keys as well. Sometimes, a key may become sticky or doesn't press well. The best way to clean is to remove the key.

Do a quick search on your specific laptop model to find out how you can remove the keys. Be careful not to bend or scrape the keys or break the clips underneath the keys. If you break the clips you may be up for a replacement keyboard.
